8 WEEK OLD BEAGLE PUPS

By 8 weeks, beagle pups are ready to go to their new homes. They now look like little hound dogs, and they are very active and playful. They can bark, growl, run and jump. They eat regular puppy food. This is an old "baby picture" of AKC Babe's Billie Jo and her brother, Blue, who is on the bottom.

8 WEEK OLD NAPPING BEAGLE

Puppies like to play and raise havoc, but they spend most of their time sleeping, just like human babies, and when they are asleep, they look like little angels!

CATIE'S MORGAN @ APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS

Catie, a young school aged girl, loves her male pup out of Billie Jo and Jack - he turned out to be a very handsome beagle and is a much loved family pet. Morgan, at 6 months, is proabably 90% grown; he may gain a little height - an inch or less, and may add some muscle and girth, but for the most part he is pretty much as big as he will get. Notice his beautiful hound eyes, and that soulful expression! He has a nicely shaped head and muzzle, good legs, and gorgeous ears. Morgan is an example of a tri-colored beagle. Thanks to Catie and her family for sharing this picture of Morgan!

ADULT BEAGLE - A RABBIT CHASING MACHINE
- Adult beagle

AKC Hockomock Swamp Loco Coco and Ray Guay, showing off her 4th place trophy, from Fort Plain Beagle Club's 2000 Derby Run Off, in Fort Plain, NY, awarded for her rabbit chasing skills. The trial is an annual event sponsored by the New England Hunting Beagle Association, which is attended by qualifying beagles from New England, PA, NY and other states. Beagles love to chase rabbits; to them it is an exciting game! These dogs use their noses to smell where the rabbit has run. They bark wherever they smell the rabbit, to let everyone know they have the track. They don't catch or injure the bunnies, though, and when the rabbits tire of the chase, they hide in a hole! Sometimes smart bunnies use tricks, like swimming across a big puddle, or running along a fallen tree, to lose the dogs, but a smart beagle won't be fooled! Our beagle pups will hunt if they are trained to so so. Coco is an accomplished hunter AND a loveable pet. CONGRATULATIONS COCO!

"POCKET BEAGLES" - A MATTER OF SIZE

Click here for more about pocket beagles

I get a lot of people asking for "Pocket Beagles." "Pocket Beagles" are just very small beagles - under 11 inches at the shoulder. Though I don't see these frequently, I have offered some in the past and our Tessa qualifies as a pocket beagle, and may bear the tiny beagles herself. The tiny pup above was bred by Roger Orsi, and she is an example of AKC registered 13 inch or smaller beagle who qualifies as a "Pocket Beagle." This pup measured only about 10 inches at the shoulder when full grown. An AKC registered 13" beagle, Alicia & Lacey's "Daisy Mae", (left), breeder R. Guay, (Babe's Billie Jo X Redwood Creek Cracker Jack), at 14 months, poses next to the "Pocket Beagle," to demonstrate the size difference. For AKC registration purposes, there is no separate classification for the "mini" beagles; they are classified as "under 13" " or "small" beagles. They are just SMALLER! Thanks to Lacey and Alicia for allowing Daisy, who measures exactly 13", to pose for this photo!
